Position Opening: Yard of the Month Coordinator

Yard of the Month (YOM) Coordinator, starting January 2019

The Highland Park Neighborhood Association’s Physical Improvements Team is seeking a Yard of the Month Coordinator for the 2019 season. This is a volunteer position.

The ideal YOM Coordinator will be an organized individual that is able to manage multiple program tasks simultaneously, mindful of the calendar, comfortable communicating (verbal and written) with all neighbors and HPNA officers, and skilled in meeting deadlines. Responsibilities of the YOM Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the YOM schedule (7 award months – April, May, June, July, August, October, December)
  • Providing program updates to HPNA webmaster for inclusion on neighborhood website
  • Informing HPNA residents of the nomination deadlines through at least seven emails or Nextdoor posts
  • Collecting nominations
  • Securing a panel of four judges to evaluate yards for each of the 7 award months
  • Filling in as a judge (when needed)
  • Distributing the list of nominations to judges
  • Tabulating scores
  • Informing winners of their awards
  • Overseeing the comings and goings of the YOM yard sign, including delivering the sign by Day 1 of the award month and retrieving it on the last day of the award month, cleaning it between recipients, and storing it during non-award months
  • Publicizing winner on HPNA website and newsletter
  • Coordinating with HPNA officers (primarily treasurer and webmaster) to facilitate program award (gift card or paid HPNA membership, public recognition of their efforts)
  • Providing bi-monthly updates (written or verbal) at HPNA meetings
